  1. Convert! for the Newton Messagepad v 2.0

  3. Just as Newton is a replacement for your diary, Convert! is a 
  4. replacement for the conversion tables usually found at the front. The 
  5. interactive nature of Newton’s built-in metric converter initially 
  6. struck me as being very useful. I was however frustrated by its 
  7. limited scope and use of US measures, hence Convert! was born. 
  8. Convert! is FREE to give away, that means that you may make use of 
  9. the software and distribute it to any other user along with this 
  10. documentation. Any comments are welcome, please send them to the 
  11. address below.

  13. Convert! can be transferred to Newton via Apple’s Connection Kit or 
  14. the Newton Package Downloader (which is available free from most 
  15. good on-line services).

  17. General Features
  18. Convert! allows the user to enter and quickly convert between 107 
  19. common (and not so common) metric and imperial units. Once the 
  20. value has been written into a field Convert! automatically calculates 
  21. the corresponding units in the table. You can then simply overwrite 
  22. any field with a new value and have the whole table recalculate. The 
  23. following conversions are supported in version 2.0:

  26. sq. millimetres, sq. centimetres, sq. metres, ares, hectares, sq 
  27. kilometres, sq inches, sq. feet, sq yards, acres, sq miles.

  30. millimetres, centimetres, metres, kilometres, inches, feet, yards, 
  31. chains, fathoms, furlongs, cables, statute miles, nautical miles.
  32.  
  33. Volume
  34. cubic centimetres, litres, cubic metre, cubic feet, cubic yards, US and 
  35. UK fluid ounces, US and UK pints, US and UK quarts, US and UK 
  36. gallons, teaspoons, tablespoons, cups.

  38. Mass
  39. milligrams, grams, kilograms, tonnes, ounces, pounds, stones, 
  40. hundredweight (cwt), slugs, short tons, long tons.

  43. atmospheres, pascals, Newtons/sq metre, Kilopascals, bar, dynes/sq 
  44. metre, mm Hg, torr, inches water, pounds/ sq inch.

  66. bits, bytes, characters, kilobytes, megabytes, gigabytes, terabytes,

  69. Additional Features

  71. Computing: In addition to the regular table calculations, the user can 
  72. specify a data transfer constant (either in bits per second or seconds) 
  73. via a radio button and have Convert! calculate the "missing variable". 
  74. e.g. to calculate how long it would take to transfer 2Mb at 2400bps: 
  75. select the "bps" radio button and write in 2400 and 2 in the 
  76. respective bps and megabyte fields. The answer will appear in the 
  77. sec field.

  79. Unit measure conversions: The length, mass, time and computing 
  80. tables also have a button respectively labelled "yd:ft:in", "tn:lbs:ozs" 
  81. and "h:m:s". This allows the user to additionally convert the feet, 
  82. pounds and seconds fields from a fraction to whole units. e.g.: 6320 
  83. seconds = 1 hours, 45 minutes, 20 seconds. This field is also dragable.

  90. Convert 2.0 : general release. Complete rewrite of Convert, better use

  94. Convert! may be freely distributed via on-line services, BBSs and 
  95. user groups provided it is not altered in ANY way.  Commercial, 
  96. Shareware and CD-ROM services must obtain advance permission in 
  97. writing from the author before distributing this product.  This 
  98. version of Convert! for Newton is free of charge.  However, it is NOT 
  99. public domain.  All copyright, ownership and rights of ownership 
  100. shall remain with the author.
